I am considering a 47" Westinghouse monitor (no tuner) to connect to Direct TV. (huge difference surrounded by price from one with tuner) i acquire conflicting answers at Best Buy. I assume that i lose closed captioning and sleep on/off features--anything else?

you don't need a tuner for directv.
if you own hdmi or dvi and some kind of audio system, you can even use a computer monitor!!
best buy is not an authority on anything!
I"m pretty sure you can. Just double check the specifications of the monitor to gross sure.
